In honor of Chinese New Year (which was on Monday), students from the Walnut Street School did a “dragon dance” through the halls of 901 Walnut Street today. The Walnut Street School, an International Baccalaureate candidate school and one of 24 schools selected for a U.S. Department of State language education grant, is studying Chinese.

CEQ Chair Visits North High

CEQ Chair Visits North High

Chair Sutley meets with a group of North students.

Nancy Sutley, the chair of the White House Council on Envionrmental Quality and President Obama's top advisor on the environment, visited North High School. She wanted a first-hand look at some of the energy conservation and efficiency work in Des Moines Public Schools, which has been a national leader in this effort. She also met with a group of students to discuss the President's recent State of the Union address and any questions about federal environmental and energy policies.
