Dogs Get Better Treatment, Homeless Boy, Jakarta

Jakarta, Dec 19, 2008, Early moring at 8:00AM.

I came across this homeless boy curling up in his sleep at the Kota central train station in Jakarta. I got to tell you, this sight hits me really hard. It kills me and breaks my heart so much. Some dogs get better treatment than boys like him.

It was raining outside. Slight wind, cold and wet. He must have taken refuge from the rain and took a space here, in the main entrance.

Pretty distrubing. This is a busy station. there were hundreds of people passing by and I am guessing that because there are too many scenes of poverty everywhere, people became hardened, ignorant, and apathic.

The reason I took this wide-angle frontal approach is to showcase the connection between the boy and the relatively empty space: alone, cold, and impersonal.

you might have a different opinion.

DMahendra: I think that this angle works quite well. Any other angle might have come off as too looming. Even then, I can imagine this at Kota train station or anywhere else in JK with a minimum of shelter.

Thanks for the fav, Rachma. It is sad. I have a gloomy premonition that things are getting harder for the ordinary folks to get by on a daily basis, and more so for these homeless children.
