Week 27

Few weeks ago I saw a casting call on ModelMayhem where a model was looking for a photographer for a Saree/Indian clothing photoshoot. I decided to reply as it looked like a lot of fun.

Well, it was a lot of fun indeed!
Shrabani (the model that published the casting call) set up everything. We had 2 models, a makeup artist, some wardrobe and a couple of wardrobe stylists who assisted me during this photoshoot. Life was easy on this one.

We shot 2 styles for each model so we had the opportunity to have some various type of shots.
The whole team was really friendly so it was real pleasure to work with them.

For this shot I had one of the stylist holding an gold reflector to warm the scene. I'm glad they were there and happy to help because it was pretty windy!
It was supposed to rain that day but it was sunny during our shoot so I left the flash in the bag as long as the ambiant light was strong enough.

Semaine 27

Il y a quelques semaines, J'ai vu une annonce sur ModelMayhem pour lequel un photographe était recherché pour un photoshoot avec des saree/vêtements indiens. J'ai décidé de me proposer vu que ça avait d'être assez fun comme truc.

Eh bien c'était effectivement super fun!
Shrabani (la modèle qui avait publié l'annonce) a tout organisé. On avait 2 modèles, une maquilleuse, plusieurs vêtements et un trio de stylistes qui m'ont également servi d'assistantes durant ce photoshoot. Bref, la vie m'a été facilitée sur ce coup.

On a shooté 2 styles différents par modèle du coup on a pu avoir des looks différents.
Tout l'équipe était vraiment amicale, l'ambiance était super et c'était donc très agréable de travailler avec elles.

Pour cette image, j'avais une des stylistes qui tenait un réflecteur doré histoire de réchauffer la scène. Je suis bien content qu'elle soient restée et qu'elles aient été contentes donner un coup de main parcequ'encore une fois il y avait pas mal de vent!
Il était censé pleuvoir ce jour là mais on au final on a eu un beau soleil le temps de la séance alors j'ai laissé le flash dans le sac tant qu'on avait assez de lumière.

So I hit the halfway mark on my 52 Week Project last week.
I've learned so much during those last 6 months! So much about exposure, how to interact with light and others technicals stuff.

But I've also learned that once you got this basic knowledge about exposure, the thing that is going to make the photo is not the photographer and his technical skills…it's all about the subject. And it comes to portraiture, it's all about the the connection you are able to make with your subject.
Of course I still got a lot to learn but It's may be the most important thing I've learned during this journey.

And the connection is easier to make with some subjects than others. The first time I worked with Awa I was really happy with the pictures. And I don't really know why it just worked. I'm currently editing our second photoshoot together and I'm having hard times choosing the pictures to edit!

Here is the 4th excerpt (and may be last) from this photoshoot and it's may be my favorite. And has it's my favorite enjoy it in the new super sized Flickr's format !

For sure, I'd love to work again with her.

La semaine passée j'ai atteint la moitié de mon projet 52.
J'ai tellement appris durant les 6 derniers mois! Tellement à propos de l'Exposition, de comment appréhender la lumière et d'autre aspect techniques.

Mais j'ai également appris que lorsque tous les éléments basiques à propos de l'exposition sont intégrés, la chose qui va vraiment faire la photo ce n'est pas le photographe et ses connaissances techniques…Il s'agit du sujet. Et dans le cadre du portrait, le plus important est sans doute la connexion qu'il y a avec la personne en face de l'objectif.
Bien sûr il me reste encore tellement à apprendre, mais à ce stade du projet c'est peut être la chose la plus importante que j'ai apprise.

Et établir cette connexion est plus facile avec certains sujets que d'autres. Ma première session avec Awa m'a comblé de joie. J'aimais beaucoup le résultat sans que je ne puisse réellement me l'expliquer. En ce moment j'édite notre deuxième session ensemble et j'ai énormément de mal à laisser de côté des photos !

Voilà le dernier extrait (et peut être le dernier) de cette séance et c'est sans doute ma préférée. Et vu que c'est ma préférée appréciez la dans le nouveau format super large de Flickr.

C'est sûr qu'il faut que je retravaille avec elle.

3rd excerpt from my session with Sandrine. This was actually one of the first shots. It was windy but we had a beautiful sunny day.

Despite its position, her ankle was fine. Ladies I don't know how you manage to walk with this kind of shoes! I'll always be impressed.

3e extrait de ma session avec Sandrine. C'est en fait l'une des premières images de la session. Il y avait du vent mais le soleil était au rendez-vous.

Malgré les apparences, sa cheville n'a rien. Mesdames, je ne sais toujours pas comment vous faites pour marcher avec ce genre de chaussures! Ça m'impressionnera toujours.
