Winter Is Coming (c) 2012 by Kit Lang

Winter Is Coming (c) 2012 by Kit Lang

I've been reading the Game of Thrones series and my head has been filled with magic realism - I wanted to make something that reflected that world where supernatural creatures and supernatural happenings blend seamlessly with the real world.

30 x 25 transfer painted silks, with the exception of the tree that is hand dyed cotton from Vicki Welsh.

Shattered Sky by Kit Lang (c) 2012

Shattered Sky by Kit Lang (c) 2012

48 x 40, predominantly cotton, gold satin strips; using Rayna Gillman's technique.

This falls into my "fractured" series nicely although I haven't ascribed any deep meaning to it. ;)

Fern (1) (c) 2011 by Kit Lang

Fern (1) (c) 2011 by Kit Lang

A journal quilt using a new-to-me-technique - transfer paints/disperse dye.

Directions for the technique found at And Then We Set It On Fire (andthenwesetitonfire.blogspot.com/2011/11/here-we-go.html) my process at my own blog (kitlangfiberart.blogspot.com/2011/11/fern-sketch.html)

This one is the first of several ferns I'll be doing using this technique - this one wee - 9 x 12 inches.

Polyester fabric, transfer paints and disperse dyes, pastel dye crayons, watercolour dye crayons, fabric dye crayons, gold leaf pen, beads. Part of November's colour palette challenge for 3 Creative Studios

Off to Oz (c) 2011 Kit Lang

Off to Oz (c) 2011 Kit Lang

this quilt was a result of Generation Q Magazine's "Scrap Splat Challenge".

We were given 40 scraps, we had to use them all and we could only add solids.

I had two designs plotted out in my head, depending on what the scraps were. Once I saw them, (especially the monkey butt front and centre) I knew what I was going to do.

Erosion (c) 2011 by Kit Lang

Erosion (c) 2011 by Kit Lang

Silk twill, hand painted, with the addition of charcoal, pastels and thread.

A piece about time - and how "resistance is futile", and yet how time can be kind if we embrace it.

30" x 9"
