Abandoned Suburbia

Abandoned Suburbia by SuburbanPoetica.
This is a distrubing image because its intense contrasts lead me into to it. This is a typical suburbia landscape. Look at it long enough and you begin to notice a key element is missing; the people. This is late morning on a weekend, and a beautiful day yet no one is outside. I walked the streets for two hours and I did not see another person. It is as if this is a plague town, wiped clean of humanity, frozen into immobility. I have hiked into deep woods, but I only feel truly lonely when I walk the suburbs.

Southside, but it's amazing how similar all these suburbs are.

There's an interesting tension between the banality of a suburb and the strangeness of the missing people. Good capture

This is an interesting image. We also have neighborhoods like this, where you never see anyone. They're a bit creepy, and you've captured the quality well.

I agree with you. Suburbia creeps me out, too.

has a "edward scissorhands" sort of feel to it..

I live in a suburb of Phoenix... you would not believe how abandoned the suburbs look in July when it's 120 degrees outside....

120 degrees! It's a dry heat though, right. ;-)

Even on beautiful days with temps in the 70's I'll walk through these subdivisions and rarely see anyone. It's bizarre.

I'm living there now, after years in a happening college town. :(

"I have hiked into deep woods, but I only feel truly lonely when I walk the suburbs. " Great line, so true...

Good but depressing capture.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called suburbanality - putting an edge on the edge of town, and we'd love to have this added to the group!
