Archeologists have uncovered a 5th-century church in Hirbet Madras in central Israel. The Byzantine-style church, which was built near the prophet Zechariah’s tomb, had eight marble columns imported from what is now Turkey. The floor of the church, which was in use until the 7th century, is “one of the most beautiful mosaics to be uncovered in Israel in recent years,” according to an official of the Israel Antiquities Authority.
