I have been away from Flickr because I am up in Reno- my father died last Friday morning at the age of 91. His wife and sons were there at his passing. I feel lucky that I could spend the last evening with him (and Mom) in the health care facility- the people there were fantastic.
I also feel very grateful for a great father, who did not have a mean bone in his body, who never hit his kids, and whom I heard swear just once, under his breath, when one of his carpentry projects went awry.
We were the first people I knew to have a stereo system (my dad built ours from a Heathkit project in 1959), and we were also the first to have a taping system because my dad built a reel to reel tape system from a kit. If personal computers had been around a decade or two earlier, Dad would have had the latest and greatest of them, but he never quite got the knack of them in his old age.
He loved to hike and he and I took several vacations together, along with my mom and cousin Andrea, through the western United States. His biggest passion, though, was for golf (he often played 5 nights a week during the summer), but he shared that activity with my brother, since I have never been a big fan of golf!
His last few years were enveloped by dementia and a gradual decline in his health, and I am so happy he is finally released from that mental prison.
Rest in peace, Dad.
