Pristine Selinog Island

My friends who saw this photo were always asking me where on earth is this beach.
I would say that this is the best beach I have seen so far. Even the famous Boracay Island could not compare to its pristine and crystal-clear water. The downside, however, is that the island does not have fresh water and the community thrives on rainwater. During the summer months, they have to fetch water either from Dapitan City or the nearby Apo Island in Negros Oriental.
The small community lives on fishing, some root crops, sari-sari store, and salt-making. which happens to be one of the alternative livelihood projects under the "Zamboanga Peninsula Upland, Lowland and Coastal Resources Management Program" that I handled through the Philippines-Canada Development Fund. The salt-making projects was managed by a local fisherfolk association and supervised by the City Agriculture Office of Dapitan City.
This is at Selinog Island Beach off the coast of Dapitan City. This is two hours travel using a big motorized outrigger boat.

Thanks for dropping by bingsit25!
I agree with you that there are many places
in Mindanao that can be great tourism
destinations. However, I have reservations
in developing, particularly this island of
Selinog. I would rather keep it the way it
is. If I have my way, I would keep it from
becoming another tragedy that is Boracay.

Just looking at the maps right now, I cn't
seem to find it. How many kilometers is this
island from the coast of dapitan? I think its
really nice. I wonder what month is this when
you visited. Much of the western Bohol sea is
normally rough on some months....

I am not very good at distance but it took
us almost 2 hours to get there. We took off
from Dapitan City. It was taken June of 2004,
and usually, this is the dry season in the
northwestern Mindanao....But I think, summer
months will also be fine. Thanks!
