i don't know anything about the history of
the edifice.
my son and i happened on it when we took a
"wrong" road on our way to
Innisfree Gardens in Millbrook, NY.
it's enormous, and all in the same state of
abandonment, except for a freshly mowed lawn
! ? !

update
Sleuthing reveals that this was originally
a Hudson Valley resort built in the early
1890s.
It became the Bennett School, a finishing
school for girls in the first part of the
twentieth century.
In the 1950's, when finishing girls became
unprofitable as well as un-doable, it was
expanded to a four year college until it
finally closed in the 1970's.
It has been abandoned until recently when
it's been rediscovered
by several flickrites.
