R.I.P. Herbie

"The San Antonio Zoo announces the sudden death of Herbie, a black rhino. Death occurred early this morning. A necropsy showed no indication as to the cause of death. Herbie was born on November 15, 1992, at the San Diego Zoo. He arrived at the San Antonio Zoo in April of 1999. Herbie was 19 years old. He made significant contributions to the black rhino captive breeding program. He sired two offsprings, a female in 2001, which is on loan to the Racine Zoo, and a male rhino in 2004, which resides at the San Antonio Zoo."
