I had last night off so I tried round up the fam and head down to Pigeon Point lighthouse to try to catch a nice sunset but we got there a bit too late and to be quite honest, the nice light just wasn't there.
It's a good thing I brought my lighting gear so ditched the idea of shooting seascapes and opted for some strobist stuff instead.
Lighting was very simple. I used an sb-800 with 1/4th CTO shot thru 28 inch Apollo softbox camera left triggered w/ cybersyncs.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy holidays. May all of you photographers get what you wish for whether its a D3S or 1D Mark IV ; )
Oh, and the title is just where nadia's gestational week count is at in case you were wondering.

my backyard
I hope you all don't mind...
I know, another lighthouse shot. I'm starting to get tired of shooting this guy but I really don't have many choices when I get out of work.
To be quite honest, I consider myself kinda lucky to have a cool little lighthouse minutes away from my home.

A moody shark fin
View On Black
Not a whole lot going on light wise in Santa Cruz yesterday. It looked as if some of the nice light wanted to come out but it was just overpowered by all the grey clouds.
Despite what it looked like, I still ended up going out. You never know, right?
I hit up Shark Fin cove in Davenport. It's been awhile since my last visit. Hell, I don't think I even owned a filter the last time I was here. I had to resort to my only option for coastal stuff and that was HDR.
Converted to mono in LR3 beta.
Have a great week kids.

laguna skies
View On Black
The last of the series from Laguna Creek a week ago when we had those amazing clouds. I felt like a kid in a candy store.
The rain has been on fire the last couple of days here in Santa Cruz which have kept us indoors for most of the time.
For this shot I used a 3 stop soft ND grad. Looking back though, I should have bracketed.

g9 does the north coast ala strobist style
What I like the most with Nadia's point & shoot Canon G9 is the ability to sync at higher speeds than my d300/700 which maxs out at 250.
Here I was able to sync at 1/1250th sec to help overpower the bright sun.
bare sb-800 camera right and crosslit with the sun behind camera left.
Another thing I like about the G9 is the size. Beats lugging the DSLR around.
My biggest gripe is the noise. I wouldn't even bother with low-light photography although the g11 packs less MP which gives it the ability to use at higher ISOs with less noise.
