A majority of the public wants the NHS to deny obese people surgery until they lose weight but allow smokers an automatic right to treatment even if their condition stems from the use of tobacco, an ICM opinion poll reveals.
The poll, based on a random sample of 1,077 people last month, was commissioned by the journal Nursing Standard, which said it disagreed with the views.

If this survey was taken in the United States, this just goes to show how dumb us Americans are! I have compassion for both obese people and smokers. Yes, people should not begin smoking or eating fattening food in the first place. But once they do, they are hooked. I believe that food can just as dangerous as smoking or drinking, and it is time for it to be regulated like any other hazardous substance.

I love my country, but am the first to admit that Americans can be stupid. After all, we elected Bush President twice, didn't we?

I am afraid to say it was a British Survey of British people. We are dumb too!

New research shows obesity linked to 8-10% fewer brain cells in specific areas of the brain involving memory &judgment...I have that experience, sad to admit.
