I used to get most of them at a children's science store, but while I was holiday shopping I discovered that both Target and Toys R Us have a pretty decent collection as well. The mini people are for railroad hobbyists, and I get those from a local hobby shop. And thanks to some of my wonderful flickr friends, I've also received lots of cool plastic things in the mail! :)

this wildlife photography is quite adorable and realistic at the same time. once, when hiking behind our last (also first) house, we spotted three tiny bears in a row, clinging to a tree. they looked like salt and pepper shakers. i was a little concerned about where the mother was, so we skeedaddled. this little guy reminds me of that magical encounter.
