AUFAUXBIOGRAPHY | Page 9 | Lewis, Martz

No sour looks from Pat Lewis, who is maybe one of the most UNDERsung cartoonists working today. Why this guy doesn't have a regular feature in Nick Magazine is beyond me. Anyway, Pat brought the story back down from its existential meanderings (although I sure did love them) and set things up for...

...John Martz, who might be one of my favorite cartoonists right now. I could stare at his ink lines, all wavy and scratchy and SWEET, all the live long day. I wish he'd quit fooling around with that old famous blog of his and spend all that time drawing more stuff for me to buy. Meeting John was one of the highlights of the weekend for me--he was just as nice as I expected him to be, and maybe a little bit more. Bonus!

John Martz is truly a Canadian treasure.

I will say that I consider pretty much every Canadian I've met to be a Canadian treasure. I've been pretty fortunate (presuming there are a fair number of non-treasure Canadians out there), especially considering the outsized number I've met, most of whom I met through comics, etc.

You are too kind! I am as pleased as can be to have contributed to this epic tale. You are an American treasure of the highest order.

What a page! I worked hard to make sure my panel was at least close to the quality of all the others, and John Martz steps in and makes it look easy!

I wanna play! Oh, how I wish I did more comic-based stuff...

    8. DHARBIN! (44 months ago | reply)

Wardomatic--are you kidding? Your stuff is SWEET, and tailor-made for comics. What's stopping you, brother?

Listen Pat--this is MY photostream. Enough with the John Martz fanclub meeting! Jeez!

Although yes, he's great. I can't tell you how often I look at that mini he did with the bajillion people from his mom's yearbook. Amazing! Hold on a sec... ah yes: here it is. A bewilderment of riches!

Hey Pat & Ward - what say we start our own John Martz fan club? Dustin, for giving us the swell idea, we'll let you in for half price (providing you bring the refreshments and funny books).

Sure smart guy, I'll bring the comics--let's see, I've got Youngblood, Spawn, Warriors of Plasm...

I would never want to belong to any club that would have me as a member, so you can guess how I feel about all of this.

    12. wardomatic (44 months ago | reply)

I'm just waiting for my freebies. THEN I'll be a paying member.

Oh, and thanks for the nice words, Dharbin -- Trying to figure out how to get into that world, I guess. How to start?

    13. DHARBIN! (44 months ago | reply)

I think you just hop in there and start making comics. That's what I'm doing--I've worked at a comic store and organized a big convention for pretty much my whole professional life, and I'm only recently starting. So you: hurry up! I'd read some "Wardomatic" comics, for sure.

how did the John Martz fanclub (and Ward Jenkins Exultation Society) meet with out me! I got thumbs to up!

    15. S.britt (44 months ago | reply)

Buzz off Laura! Didn't you read the "No Girls Allowed" sign clearly posted outside our secret fort?!? However, if you were to up and move to Canada and start dressin' like a fellah (preferably a Royal Mountie), I'm sure we could make an exception.

Do we REALLY need John's approval to start a Johnny "Maple" Martz fan club? Ward, do you really need coaxing to make comics? Dustin, should I be cluttering up your flickr account with my moronic meanderings?!?

    16. DHARBIN! (44 months ago | reply)

Oh man, meander away--if our club didn't allow morons, we'd have to have our meetings on LAURA's page. Girls are icky.

I don't think there's any reason why we couldn't start a John Martz fan club (how about "The Reasonably Distinguished Society Of Housemartzins"?) without having John Martz as a fan. It would probably make the meetings all awkward anyway, to have him around poo-pooing our various praisements and Martz-themed hymns, etc.
