Roman-script Pāḷi Tipiṭaka Manuscript

One of the most difficult and time-consuming tasks during the first 6 years of the World Tipiṭaka Project (1999-2005) was the proof-reading & editing process which were conducted behind the scene and in confidentiality among designated scholars and computer engineering experts .

These digitalised manuscripts are part of the Dhamma Society's World Pāḷi Tipiṭaka Project Archives which will soon be available via Tipiṭaka WebService for international scholars in the field of Pāḷi Tipiṭaka editing methodology in accordance with the Great Buddhist Theravāda Council.

Over 280,000 pages from 7 manuscript editions of the 40-volume Pāḷi Tipiṭaka in Roman script have been recorded for procedural transparency and as evidence of scholarly editing based on the International Council Pāḷi Tipiṭaka manuscripts.

A 12-colour coded tag, indicating 12 major categories of various printing errors from the previous printings before the year 2000, have been identified and corrected in the Roman-script editing process between 1999-2005 by Dhamma Society's World Pāḷi Tipiṭaka Project.

This Roman-script text from the Abhidhamma Pāḷi Tipiṭaka Volume No.39 --Patthānapāḷi from the Great International Council Pāḷi Tipiṭaka -- has been transliterated from the Burmese-script edition, printed in Myanmar in B.E.2498-2499 (1954-1955).

Note the very important addenda in hand writing which had been omitted in the later editions of the Burmese printing, have been added in the World Tipiṭaka Edition, according to the original Burmese-script manuscript.

Digitizing these archives has been done by Flash Image Processing Technology in order to preserve for posterity the 3,000 years old wisdom-based heritage of Humankind.

"...บัดนี้ กองทุนสนทนาธรรมนำสุขฯ ในพระสังฆราชูปถัมภ์ฯ ได้นำพระไตรปิฎกฉบับฉัฏฐสังคีติที่สอบทานโ ดยสงฆ์เถรวาทนานาชาตินี้ มาจัดพิมพ์ด้วยอักษรโรมันที่เป็นสากลแก่ผู ้อ่านในนานาประเทศ

จากการดำเนินการด้วยความเพียรพยายามอย่าง ตั้งใจจริง และโดยกระบวนวิธีที่รอบคอบรัดกุม จึงมีรายงานของคณะผู้ทำงานว่า ได้พบพระไตรปิฎกฉบับฉัฏฐสังคีติที่พิมพ์ต่ างวาระและสามารถกำหนดแยกได้ ระหว่างฉบับต้นร่างกับฉบับที่พิมพ์จากผลงา นอันได้ทวนทานแล้ว ตลอดจนรู้เข้าใจฉบับที่พิมพ์ครั้งต่อๆ มาได้ตามเป็นจริง ทำให้ได้ต้นฉบับที่มั่นใจที่สุด กับทั้งยังได้สอบทานกับพระไตรปิฎกฉบับอักษ รต่างๆ ของหลายประเทศซ้ำอีกครั้งหนึ่งด้วย เหมือนกับทำให้จุดหมายของฉัฏฐสังคีติบรรลุ ผลสมบูรณ์

นอกจากนี้ คณะผู้ทำงานได้นำความเจริญด้านอิเล็กทรอนิ กส์ของยุคปัจจุบันที่ ล่าสุดมาใช้ประโยชน์ด้วย ทำให้จัดวางระบบการค้นคว้าอ้างอิง ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ และได้ฐานข้อมูลที่พร้อมอย่างยิ่งสำหรับงา นอย่างอื่น เกี่ยวกับการศึกษาค้นคว้า พระไตรปิฎกที่อาจจะจัดทำต่อไป เช่น การนำข้อมูลลงใน CD-ROM โดยมีโปรแกรมค้นให้สะดวก เป็นต้น..."

ต้นฉบับการตรวจทานพระไตรปิฎกปาฬิ อักษรโรมัน ฉบับสังคายนาสากล พ.ศ. 2500 ชุด 40 เล่ม

ภาพจดหมายเหตุโครงการพระไตรปิฎกสากลแสดงต ้นฉบับพระไตรปิฎกปาฬิอักษรโรมัน เล่มที่ 39 จากจำนวนต้นฉบับทั้งสิ้น 7 ชุด (280 เล่ม) หรือประมาณ 112,000 หน้า

ภาพเหล่านี้แสดงการแก้ไขการพิมพ์ต่างๆ ที่บกพร่องในอดีตให้ถูกต้องยิ่งขึ้น ซึ่งกองทุนสนทนาธัมม์นำสุขฯ ในพระสังฆราชูปถัมภ์ฯ ได้จัดพิมพ์พระไตรปิฎกปาฬิจากฉบับสังคายนา สากล พ.ศ. 2500 เป็นอักษรโรมัน สำเร็จ ในปี 2548.

ต้นฉบับชุดหนึ่ง จำนวน 40 เล่มนี้ ได้นำขึ้นจัดแสดงถวายให้สมเด็จพระเจ้าพี่น างเธอเจ้าฟ้ากัลยาณิวัฒนา กรมหลวงนราธิวาสราชนครินทร์ทอดพระเนตรในปี พ.ศ. 2545 เพื่อให้ทรงทราบถึงความสำคัญอันยิ่งยวดในก ารจัดพิมพ์ฉบับสมบูรณ์ชุดแรกในประเทศไทย
