It's not the street that comes out from under
Charing Cross station, is it? Villiers
Street? Oh, I shouldn't even be playing.

Judging from the amount of disparate guesses
I guess one grotty, graffiti'd passage under
a railway looks much like any other. No one's
close yet. I suppose Barbican/Silk Street is
technically the closest so far. In spite of
its apparent familiarity, I suspect it's
probably a bit too obscure.

Do you know if this is a spot along the Jack
th Ripper walk?? it looks really familiar!
I see your back in the UK now then Dave.
Did you enjoy your trip over the pond? it
looked really good from the end of this
flickry string.

Dave, once guessed, this photo would fit
nicely into Swampy's new pool called Things
that make Britain Great. www.flickr.com/groups/makingbritaingreat/
It really shows what Britain is becoming
and would be very welcome in this group I'm
sure.

Hmm, looking at the right hand bend in the
road, i can see two streets that bend that
way under the railway line: code street near
shoreditch station or elder street (as it
turns into quaker) street under commercial
street. I hope that makes some kind of sense!

Both of which are between Liverpool St and
Bethnal Green which is the stretch Loopzilla
was referring to. But like I say, it's the
right direction but it's not far enough down
the line.

I can't find a new way to tell you that it's
not between Liverpool St and Bethnal Green...
it's further down the line.

peejay76 - that's a very precise answer... it
is indeed Corbridge Crescent, the least
crescent shaped Crescent I've ever seen. The
alley it's looking into is called Grove
Passage although the road sign is all but
covered in guano and other detritus. And yes,
Loopzilla, it is indeed opposite Vyner
Street.

Aaaah, I still reckon it's somewhere between
Liverpool St and Bethnal Green.
Sometimes I get a kick out of being
blatantly wrong in the face of overwhelming
facts ;-)

So who else thinks we need to start a new
pool called

This is about 1 minute from my house and I've
got a photo of it in the fog which I'll dig
out, it looks really creepy. The Oval is
indeed quite skanky but I believe it used to
be a fish pond with a few cottages around it
back when we had highwaymen on the Cambridge
(Heath) Road.

The sickly yellow (slightly bilious) lighting
mixed with the blue really gives a feeling of
unease, and the stained, grafitti-strewn
walls look amazingly grimy.
The lighting is a bit OTT for my personal
tastes (looks a bit like overdone photoshop)
but it's a superbly grim photo. Now leg it
before someone does us over!

the colours are so unusual. From reading the
posts, this doesn't sound like a very nice
place to be, but you have found such beauty
in it - well done.

there is no beauty in this alleyway, unless
you count guano, sick, dog droppings, stained
and sodden mattresses, dank condensation and
mildewed brickwork in your definition of
beauty.

I like this, it has a surreal feel to it, and is a little bit sinister too! Spooky!
