Dr. John Nagl, Ph.D. - Winning the Wars We're In

by World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth

As American military combat in Iraq comes to an end and the U.S. is sending an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan, many questions remain about these conflicts. Nearly 10 years since the start of the war in Afghanistan, will the counterinsurgency strategy prove successful against the Taliban? Is the July 2011 goal for beginning U.S. troop withdrawal in Afghanistan realistic or will more time be needed to stabilize the country’s government and security forces? Dr. John Nagl, president of the Center for a New American Security and author of Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya and Vietnam, addressed these issues in his talk on “Winning the Wars We’re In.”
