DFID - UK Department for International Development
After the cyclone: Ma Mya Oo
Ma Mya Oo has seven children. Her family is supported by DFID's partner, International Development Enterprises (IDE), which provides rice seed and fertiliser. The family has just one acre of land, so her husband also works as a day labourer. They lost 45 chickens in Nargis, and their yield of rice has dropped from 70 'tins' (2450 kg) to 35 tins.
All of their children survived, even though they were washed away from the house in the deluge. One of the girls is still terrified of rain and water in general.
