Where else can you slide into a gold glitter vinyl banquette, nosh on potato dumplings and Polish sausage, while the piano player plays just about any song you can imagine at a curved piano bar with a portrait of Chopin hanging overhead? The dark wood paneling, the red carpet, everything speaks to it's 1950s origins. It is hip and retro, because it never changed. Ever.
Jeez, if that isn't enough, pay your tab, tip the piano payer and push through the swinging doors into the adjacent bar to check out the "World's Most Dangerous Polka Band" with Joe Hayden playing Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."
Seriously. It is all that and a pierogi.
Of course, Nye's was named best bar in America by Esquire magazine in 2006. www.esquire.com/features/ESQ1006BESTBARS_147
