Dams are such cool micro-habitats. I also
really like to check out the tops of upturned
roots from a deadfall - on the island
elderberry grows up there, which I can't
figure out because I thought it was kind of a
boggy fellow.

Weird! I wonder if it might especially like
light when it's young, so that it thrives
when it's lifted up past the usual grasses
and whatnot?
