Phyciodes tharos

Phyciodes tharos by destabee.
Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos)

These very small butterflies (under an inch) were out in large numbers. They seemed to prefer the clover blooming in the mowed trails and would fly up in small clouds as I walked. They generally rested on plants with wings spread. Learn more about them at: www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species?l=1741&chosen_sta...

Photo taken on the afternoon of August 20 at Taltree Arboretum & Gardens off of Hwy 30 near Valparaiso, in Porter County, Indiana.
