I'm not from N.O., but I've lived here since 1998 and have been going to Jazz Fests and the like since 1989. My wife is from here--her grandfather led the Young Tuxedo Brass Band for years until he died. She grew up near the Fairgrounds and would see the Tuxedos warm up in the backyard before seeing them later at Jazz Fest.

Yes, it's still a broken-down city teetering on the brink of collapse, but we like to think it's slowly coming back. It still has a vibe unlike any other American city--I say that as if I've been to ALL of them, what a jerk--and I want to be here when it all finally turns around.
