Deputy Secretary Daniel Poneman visits with workers at the X-701B Groundwater Plume Source Removal Project during a visit to the Portsmouth Site in southern Ohio on September 9. ARRA funds focus oxidant treatment on a 70,000 square foot source area of TCE contamination. Treatment is achieving a 95% reduction in the TCE levels, reducing the concentrations from 181,500 ug/kg to approximately 7,000 ug/kg. TCE was an industrial degreaser formerly used at the plant that enriched uranium from 1954 until 2001.
