Community Supported Art Project 2011

Borrowing from the farm model of Community Supported Agriculture, the CSA program offers local artists and art buyers a creative opportunity to engage and connect. The CSA program was designed to support artists and to create an engaged community of local arts supporters. The idea for this project originated with the Minneapolis, Minnesota based group Springboard for the Arts and we’re grateful for their enthusiasm and support.

Nine artists were selected to create a series of 25 new works. Each artist receives a stipend to assist in the production of the work to be distributed through the CSA. Interested buyers will be able to purchase one of 25 shares from the Delaplaine and in return will receive three boxes of locally produced artwork at three pick up events. Each CSA share will include at total of 9 original works for the season and will contain a mix of mediums, disciplines, value and concepts. Shares will also include a “bumper crop” of additional artwork, opportunities and surprises.

2011 CSA artists are:
Mark Burrier
Michael Douglas Jones
Jonah Knight
Lisa Kovatch
Jan McIntyre Lamb
Kathryn Paul
Courtney Prahl
Calvin Edward Ramsburg
David Vogin

CSA supports artists in the creation of new work, to establish relationships with local collectors and patrons, and to participate in the launch of an exciting new model of art support and distribution. CSA Share member benefits include multiple works of art from local emerging and mid-career artists at a fantastic value. Additionally, CSA Share members have the opportunity to develop relationships with the local artists and art community, discover new artists, explore a variety of disciplines and support artists’ careers and a vibrant community.

2012 artists will be announced at the end of July. Pick-up events will be during First Saturday receptions in October, November and December, and will give shareholders the opportunity to meet the artists individually, as well as enjoy food and music.
