All those “democrats” that formed their
banana republics on the territory of former
Yugoslavia have somehow ended up with
entirely ethnically pure states (Bosnian
Muslims have tried to do the same with their
“minority” Serbs, but failed).
Meanwhile, the so called“genocidal” Serbs
are the only ones who have preserved ethnic,
cultural and religious diversity and have the
most multicultural and multi-ethnic country
on the entire Balkan Peninsula. And the only
one with over 1.5 million refugees from all
the regions of former Yugoslavia, of all
ethnicities and faiths.
Go figure!

I don't think flickr is an ideal place for
political discussion. However, some facts
might be useful here. I've figured:
82,86 per cent of the people living in
Serbia are Serbs, according to the
Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia.
That leaves 17,14 per cent to other
ethnicities.
64,18 per cent of the people living in
Macedonia are Macedonians. That leaves 35,82
per cent to other ethnicities.
43,16 per cent of the people living in
Montenegro are Montegrins. That leaves 56,84
per cent to other ethnicities.
83 per cent of the people living in
Slovenia are Slovenians. That leaves 17 per
cent to other ethnicities.
48 per cent of the people living in Bosnia
see themselves as Bosniaks. That leaves 52
per cent to other ethnicities.
89,63 per cent of the people living in
Croatia are Croats. That leaves 10,37 per
cent to other ethnicities.
Conclusion: Serbia is on par with Slovenia
when it comes to ethnic diversity.
The web site of the Serbian government says
«the number of refugees and internally
displaced persons have varied from 350,000 to
800,000.»

I agree, Flickr is not as such, a forum for
political discussions.
An image can have a political message, -
and it that case we can discuss whether the
image actually deliver the message.
I do not see this image as political in any
way, - but as a wonderful moody image of a
church! It's well composed, and the mist add
a mystical atmosphere to it. It's great!
Well done!

Actually this one and so many other photos
relating to subject of Kosovo have a
political connotation, and as such must be
confronted.
Decafinata, Kosovo has been raped over and
over again by militant and separatist
Albanians who are eagerly stretching into
territories that are for centuries Serbian
sacral land!
For centuries monasteries and churches over
there have been wishfully covered in foggy
mists, blurry presentations.
Worlds heritage - ancient monasteries built
by Serbians dating back to middle ages have
been destroyed or made into Mosques!!!!!
Has anyone ever seen Christian church build
over Mosque!
That’s rape of tradition, culture,
spiritual being of one nation by other…Are we
supposed to just shut out mouth seeing
injustice revile?
It’s amusing how you misinterpreted those
statistics…it so ignorant…and for the sake
of justice and honour you should not be lying
yourself and others that don’ have time or
interest to dig deeper into this subject.
And by the way, I don’t want to go deep
into statistics, but it would become a real
long and boring political debate.

Your first entry didn't comment on my
picture. You said that Serbia was «the most
multicultural and multi-ethnic country on the
entire Balkan Peninsula». I wanted to find
out more on the subject, and those are the
numbers I found. You say I have
«misinterpreted» them, but you don't say how.
You call me «ignorant», but you don't say
why. You accuse me of «lying», but you don't
correct me by bringing the truth. What are
the correct numbers? I would be glad to know.
If you want to read a political connotation
into the picture, that's ok, but to me, it's
simply a beautiful motive. I don't really
understand why it «must be confronted». It's
a picture of a Serbian Orthodox church
standing in Kosovo. What better way to show
that the Serbs have a right to be in Kosovo –
which they have. I hope for a Kosovo where
Serbs and Albanians live peacefully together.
It's true what you say that the Albanians
have done horrible things to Serbian houses,
churches and monasteries, and I hope nothing
have happened to the church in this picture.
Yes, I have seen Christian churches built
over mosques, in Cordoba (the Cathedral
inside the Mezquita), Granada (Iglesia de San
Juan de los Reyes is built over the Mosque of
La Alcazaba, and Iglesia del Salvador is
built over the Great Mosque) and Sevilla
(Iglesia de Santa Catalina, Iglesia del
Salvador, Iglesia de San Marcos, Iglesia de
Omnium Sanctorum and the Cathedral of Sevilla
are all built over former mosques).

Decafinata, wasn't my intention to insult
you, but when someone gives me vague answer
that shows of with few numbers from such -and
-such source that is claiming to have real
statistic data, then I (if I have time) ask,
where is that information collected so I can
see for my self those numbers...
I want to explain why I mentioned your
ignorance...to understand those statistics
you have to know land, culture, history and
habits of people who live there...Your data
is saying that 82, 82% of population in
Serbia are Serbians, and only 17, 14 are from
other nationalities…and that’s shockingly
strange, because, if you have lived there as
I have, you would be stunned by these numbers
too.
Those referendums have always been messy,
especially because until 16 years ago people
were declaring them selves as Yugoslavs, not
really knowing what a difference to some
people it was to be separated as Muslims,
Serbians, Croats….and that’s the misery of EX
Yugoslavia…while the whole Europe is uniting,
Balkans are separating on a verge of
religious, narco mafia, political, economical
explosion which all erupted initiated by
forces much greater than any of us can
comprehend. When you find the reason who is
supporting this conflicts and giving away
someone else’s country to others, separating
families (that are so blood mixed that they
can’t possibly know what nationality they are
100%) and leaving Albanian narco mafia to
lead Albanians to territories with such great
material potential- than you are going to
start finding out more and more.
But in all that mess one nation - more that
any other- has been up and ready to live in
ignorance of it’s own nationality for the
sake of peaceful life in unity. Those were
Serbians…that’s why you can see so many mixed
marriages in Serbia and so few in other ex
Yugoslavian republics (exclude Macedonia,
they have too many problems of there own
since they were so hasty to catch the
separation virus , that they regret so much,
but can’t go back) - …oh, I don’t want to
loose the line…while we are talking about
Macedonia, statistics say 64.18 % in
Macedonia are Macedonians and huge 35.82% are
other nationalities…Actually the number is
that huge , guess why - Albanians are making
a similar mess in Macedonia as on Kosovo (but
it’s going to be worse, as soon as the Kosovo
story unravels, unless someone stopes
Albanians).
You red that No. of refugees in Serbia have
varied from 300 000 – 800 000(is that a small
number????(does it sound more in $$$$ that in
is human lives)…Was it explained when this
No. varied from when to when, when were
fluctuations of this No…? That information is
not enough.
Statistics from 5th Jan 2007 say that in
Serbia lives 110 000 refugees…that’s NOW…but
If we know that since 12 years ago number of
refuges that fled from 35% of it’s general
ethnic territory was 2 000 000 ( 2 MILLION
PEOPLE), that only from Croatia where (
750.000)- now there are only 70.000(mostly
old people who came back to die on there land
after living in refugee camps in Serbia for
5-6 years(more-less when EU made an ultimatum
to Croatia to fulfil those requirements if
they want to be excepted in the EU), you have
to bare in mind how many people after a while
have been granted visas in other countries of
the World…so subtract big number…of those
refugees, that came , stayed, lived for some
time in great poverty (Serbia was under
sanctions!!!) and live now in Canada,
Australia, America…
Then there is statistic from October 2006
that said that in Serbia lived 1.145.667
refugees...then from end of May 1991 to July
’95 the Number of registered refugees dropped
to 451 124, and from August till late dec’95
the number was 354.498…the reason was among
others also a change in birocratic status of
the refugees when they were actually getting
Serbian passports, and being officially
citizens of one new country and not the
former republic they used to live in. Also
then there was Bosnia… towards the end of
October 1991, Croatia began an organized
elimination of the Serbs in the districts of
Grubisno Polje, Moslavina, and Slavonska
Pozega. Hundreds of Serbian families fled to
Bosnia, on the road to Banja Luka, leaving
their villages, homes and all other
possessions in Croatia, never to return.
Bosnia was only a temporary refuge for them.
The same columns of people headed towards
Serbia when the war began in Bosnia.
As the wave of refugees(nonalbanians) from
Kosovo and Metohia after NATO bombing , when
320 000 Serbs, Montenigrienas, Muslims,
Gypsies, Egyptians….rushed into Serbian
centre…the number of refugees again changed.
and Serbia was troubled with another sad
story of poverty and desperate struggle to
provide jobs, place to live…After NATO
bombing the number of refugees raise to
1.150.000…and than gradually stepped in to
number 800 000…(same stats as in 1997)…
I don’t know if this is going to fit…I am
trying to explain…you see is not easy…number
is always changing...

Hi :)(:
It's ok, I was not insulted. It's nothing
personal here :-)
I should have given you the sources for my
statistics. They are all from Wikipedia,
except for the refugee numbers that I got
from the Serbian government's page:
www.arhiva.serbia.sr.gov.yu/cms/view.php?id=1
017
If you go to the «Facts» section of the
same website, you will see that the Serbian
government also estimates the number of Serbs
to be 82,86 per cent of the population:
www.arhiva.serbia.sr.gov.yu/cms/view.php?id=1
015
I agree with you that it's the misery of
former Yugoslavia that people stopped seeing
themselves as Yugoslavs. Many wanted to
continue with that, especially those of mixed
heritage.
The question of refugees is, as your
numbers make clear, a very complex one. I
only know what the Serbian government says,
and that's why I reacted to your first entry.

Decafinata, I applaud you...people like you
are rare, even if we have different opinions,
I admire individuals who are willing to dig
deeper into subjects that are influencing
other peoples lives.
That’s a good quality, because in today’s
world “small” people need to be informed or
else we will be moved around and around with
out any approval or notion why, by who ore
even where.
Cheers!

"...so called“genocidal” Serbs."
I calike to call a spade a spade. SOME
Serbs - Radovan, Ratko, Arkan, & thier
ilk can be accurately described as genocidal
bastards, imho, as a neutral observer...sure
there were plenty of Croats too at it, &
a lesser number of Bosnians, but then they
wer the ones most sinned against, by any
objective analysis...as for Kosovo...get
ovewr it for God's sake...you lost a battle
there in the 14th century, big deal, if we
Irish adopted this retrospective Martyrdom
Complex, Nothern Ireland would still be
drenched in blood, just get over it!
