Oh, yeah, spot on! Well done, Deb. I can see why you went down later in the day than I did!

Hey thank you so much everyone for your wonderful comments :)
Kenny - he was actually tying bait on to the end of a fishing line, i think.

this is a lovely portrait. you captured a feeling in this fellow that is expansive and open to interpretation. i sometimes think that the greater the variety and number of potential interpretations, the stronger the image is.
my only quibble is with the framing / cropping. i think its a bit too centered and static. for me personally, i'd probably try eliminating a bit more of the reflection to the left side. i think the more you can reduce the amount of water, the stronger the form of his silhouette will become.
its nevertheless a beautiful image and nearly ready for national geographic or similar publication.
deb sidelinger (71 months ago | reply)
thank you! yes, i agree completely with you about the framing here.
the one thing i really like about this picture is the clarity with which i've captured his profile... you can see his eyelashes, nose, mouth. i also like the golden tones...
but i find the overall composition too boring. you can't really tell what he's doing. if it wasn't for the title, you wouldn't have a clue that he's fishing.
so... pretty but not outstanding.
not exhibition or magazine quality, that's for sure. there would need to be much more interest in the shot... more clues as to where he was or what he was doing.
