My Gaia Maya Art Challenge

My Gaia Maya Art Challenge

These images are previous avatars used at Gaiaonline, created with doll/avatar builders at that site. these images are totally the property of Gaia and my usage is as a member only. I am only using images of avatars I have personally assembled from their wide range of mix and match choices. These images will be used to place on my profile and my Gaia journal. As the virtual community site is focused on anime and fantasy site art and drawing of characters is encouraged at the site. There are many instructional tips and guides for usage of art and they promote fair practices teaching the importance of proper art submission and crediting sources to their many young members. As, there is no image storage on the site the only way to get your images back up is to host them else where. As a highly trafficked site with tons of pictures and flash animation bandwidth concerns makes this understandable. You must be a member to see many of the places on the site, Which is totally free and totally a game. You get Gaia gold for doing almost everything, and it takes gaia gold to purchase the many wardrobe and hairstyles used for the avatar changes. As an artist I have admired "Anime" but never tried my hand at it. I drawn cartoons, but anime is a style of it's own. In my attempt to start drawing again, I have found at this site inspiration for a new challenge which has actually helped me to draw on paper once more. so I have set the challenge for myself to draw at least one picture a week on paper after successfully managing to draw something, for the first time in almost 2 years. I will draw images based on the characters I invent from the collections available at Gaia. There is expected to be an steady improvement of the style and quality over a period of time. Also my photography of the drawings is also expected to improve over time. In the set will be added more original drawings and less screenshots.

Okay this is a msaint quickie and doesn't count as a drawing. and it s a pretty rough graphic too. But, it is something that most people can do quickly....even without fancy software or any drawing skill.

avatar entries

avatar entries

At the "Avatar Arena" you can submit for voting your avatar for 1000 pieces of Gaia Gold each week. In order to have a new image challenge to draw I will change my avatar weekly or at least create at least 52 different looks so there will be a drawing challenge for me. Avatar entries are saved on the site for top entries. With so many users it will robably be rare that the site will save my entries of my creations for more than a week, So, I will temporarily store copies until I have done a drawing on the themed design. If I keep up with my drawing challenge there should be a new drawing placed into this set every week.

My Gaia House

My Gaia House

Your house starts off empty with concrete walls. Well, this presents the same challenge that you get if you have been a disaster victim... you start off with nothing. This was done in my first week at Gaia. Some how the concept of "owning absolutely nothing" got to me. I had to do something about that. I needed Gaia gold. It took a little longer than a week to rebuild my own life and I still don't have some of the things my avatar at Gaia has. So my little cartoon character and I have a lot in common. We both need to upgrade our wardrobes and houses. On the site you can also learn the basics of doing art based commerce. That's right you can sell your art to other people on gaia with gaia gold to be used on the site (even though you can't upload it there) So, i am probably going to draw this and different Gaia house looks also to add to my drawing challenges. Now I don't plan to spend more time working on my virtual house than I spend on my real house. so future house looks will be farther spaced out. In this picture I have squid legs and a bunch of pets with me. That's right I was half squid for a coulple of days. The wall painting can be gotten by completing puzzles on the game site. Most of the other items have to be purchased in the shops or in the market place from other members who have gotten sales licenses. The fastest way to fill your house is to go ahead and get your licences and start buying and selling, or win auctions in the market place.
This house was done in under a week.

My first 1st Gaia drawing

My first 1st Gaia drawing

This is my first drawing of me with my pet "Gwee the Dragon". Gwee the Dragon, which can be found in the market place, was in the August 2006" Thank you letter" that I bought in the market place for Gaia Gold. Thank you letters are sent to members that contribute $2.50 to the site which they use to keep everything going. The site is free and contributions are totally voluntary. Items you get in the "thank you letters" are available for one month only. so the only way to get them is through the market lace or by trading with other members.

This was before I went to the salon and changed my hair. The hairstyle was my original choice when I first created my avatar. The outfit is not available at the gaia shops. This drawing was done with "Sharpie" colored markers and Prismacolors' "Verithin" pencil colors on paper in a sketch book. Let's see how much I improve over time as we shall we.
