CSCI 101 - Lego Week! |
Ok, so I launched the lego project this
week (4/17) for my 101 classes. Their
task? To escort President LegoMan from
the Anytown Airport across town to the
Anytown Firefighter's Association BBQ
(political fundraiser!). The only rule?
They have to follow the roads... no
driving over buildings :)
I wasn't quite sure what they would
think about it. After all, I am
requiring them to do much more than just
play with the robots like we did for Preview Day. I want them to get some insight into
the software development cycle (plan,
code, test, document) and give them
hands on experience with programming. I
want them to think about what they are
learning and how they are learning it.
I am asking the students to blog after
each class and to think reflectively…
something that most college students
just aren't used to doing. After all,
what in the heck does that have to do
with computers?? A lot! Computer science
is all about problem solving, about
using logic, about thinking things
through. It's about taking a look at
what lessons have been learned so they
can be applied to the next test, the
next case, the next programming
challenge. Will they get it figured out?Check here to find out!
