    OK: back story on Deb, I never planned on doing cakes as a career. I always thought that I'd be in fine arts but unfortunately so did millions(?) of other people, lol! I am strongly influenced by pop artists so this is my homage to Andy Warhol in cake...... NOT banana cake ,alas! about 18" long

      Honestly, You are so inspiring to me. I'm in your situtation then, now. I'm in my fourth year in college...of business marketing! I'm an artist at heart, but decided against studying that because of the competition and odds of success being against me.

      I'm alittle terrified that I'm this far into college and am beginning to realize that I LOVE decorating and sculpting cakes. I've done about six different cakes for friends (they insisted on paying for them and did) and love it.

      Do you have any suggestions? And what kind of fondant do you use, I've used gumpaste, but primarily use royal icing because fondant scares me >.<

      i can tell you that the odds of making a GREAT living at cakes are very slim. I do OK but nothing compared to what someone in business might make. The hours are crazy long and I have not had a vacation in years.I do this because it's pretty much all I have ever done. If I could do cakes just for fun I would. I think I would def. appreciate it more, than HAVING to rely on it for a living.The competition for cakes is growing all the time, alas.Just my 2.5 cents. =) do what makes you happy!
