I wandered around some of the Portage Bay shoreline last night and was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time to capture this Great Blue heron in the evening light. Taken with a Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 at 200mm coupled with a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter.

Uploaded on Jul 9, 2009 under the ramp and through the woods we goOne of the environmental travesties of the 20th Century to take place in Seattle was the decision to build highway access ramps through the wetlands and parkland of the Washington Park Arboretum. They do make for interesting photo ops, however. What you see above is where the trail to Foster Island in Portage Bay goes under State Route 520 (opening at right). Or you can go left and wade into the detritus. See the map for location and context.
