   Incredible. I grew up just 10 minutes from there. Although today there is new tram line and much more traffic.

   Really ? Can you tell me what this intersection is ? I recall it's fairly close to Alexanderplatz, but I'm not sure anymore.

   Of course. Today it is Mollstraße / Otto-Braun-Straße. The latter had a different name then. It was the Hans-Beimler-Straße. If you have more of these pictures please upload them. I am very interested in that period.

   Thanks Amtsleiter. I remember wondering who Hans Beimler was...

   I have a few from this era, I'll try and get them scanned.

   Wonderful! What Film did you use? Orwo???
   Hans Beimler was a German communist who died near Madrid in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War. After the war many streets, schools, factories etcetera were named after him in the GDR.

   Oh, thanks for the info about Hans Beimler, orwocolor. I think I used orwo once or twice. for the most part back then i was using tri-x , as I recall. this shot was clearly an exception.

    These photos make my head spin. In 1981 Vienna did not look so different than today. In Berlin everything has changed dramatically, the east as much as the west. Its a different city.
