The Persistence of History

The Persistence of History by Dead Air.
"A strange thing is memory, and hope; one looks backward, and the other forward; one is of today, the other of tomorrow. Memory is history recorded in our brain, memory is a painter, it paints pictures of the past and of the day."

- Anna Mary Robertson Moses

This is awesome! The composition, the sheen on the tape, the shadowy figrure - outstanding!

And great quote too.

this is a brilliant image, and a brilliant quote. i've just been reading octavia butler science-fiction stories about the breakdown of society (in the brilliant collection bloodchild), and this reminds me a lot of that.....

@Lady V - Ah, I haven't read that collection but I loved the two Parable novels she wrote along the same lines!

Rather than persistence, it makes me think of the opposite, the fragility of memory, of technological memory in particular, and the fleeting nature of techno trends. Anybody still able to play 8-tracks? Betamax? Are those CD backups of zipped archives of Word Perfect files going to be any damn good to anybody in twenty years? But a BOOK from a hundred years ago -- no problem (if you're careful).
