No, I was NOT hang gliding...no one should ever ever ever ever do that in this storm!! My camera (unfortunately, not me...I was on another plane flying in the rainbands and thus couldn't see much, as you can tell in IMG-0949) was aboard the NOAA-43 hurricane hunter courtesy of another scientist. I'm participating in the RAINEX (hurricane rainband and intensity change experiment) project, so we're flying airborne doppler radars into the storms to better study them...but these are planes specifically designed to withstand the forces of these storms, DO NOT TRY THIS!

reminds me of that guy who called me at the PHX office to ask for airport conditions in florida because he wanted to fly out and take his boat OUT ON THE WATER during one of the hurricanes. crazy.
