William Butler Yeats, Ierland (1865 - 1939) - A Coat

William Butler Yeats, Ierland (1865 - 1939) - A Coat by de_buurman.
A Coat

I made my song a coat
covered with embroideries
out of old mythologies
from head to throat;

But the fools caught it,
wore it in the world’s eyes
as though they’d wrought it.

Song, let them take it,
for there’s more enterprise
in walking naked.

Een Jas

Ik maakte van mijn lied een jas
met manchetten en met kragen
van legenden en van sagen,
en alles precies pas.

Tot de dwazen hem grepen
en hem in ’t openbaar droegen
als hadden ze hem gemaakt.

Al scheurden ze hem aan repen,
ik liep met het grootste genoegen
vrijwillig naakt.
