Suzuki-san

Suzuki-san

Here we find a certain Suzuki-san, flanked by Hiroki and I on either side.

Suzuki-san is a Higashi Matsushima native who has come back from his current home in Sapporo to help his family handle things. A truly benevolent soul, he was one of those who wound up helping other residents while his parents' home laid desperately in need itself.

When the schools were ready to go back into session and kick out their sheltered refugees, Suzuki-san found other local facilties that were willing and capable of taking in people and got them registered with the city. He also helped us organize more than a few clinics, and even stood in to help Doc Flint speak with the locals with the English he knows. After some time, we simply had to tell him to take care of his own family and leave the rest to us!

Bumpy roads

Bumpy roads

"Uneven road surfaces"- ha, understatement of the year. Miles of the road out to Oku Matsushima were essentially washed out, with makeshift dirt throughways offering temporary access on and off the peninsula where hundreds remain either in their houses or in shelters.

Miyako clinic

Miyako clinic

Eye clinic held in Miyako, Oku Matsushima, part of Higashi Matsushima. We only had a limited time to give this clinic before high tide came in and made the road home impassable.
