UUP 2009 |
On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a bunch
of us met up in downtown Petaluma to
pick up litter, and to distribute
compact fluorescent lightbulbs in
low-income neighborhoods. A great way to
spend the morning, after which we all
had lunch together.
We took our annual photo on the front
steps of the Woman's Club in early
February.
UUP held its first-ever "Fifth
Sunday Luncheon" on March 29, a
vegan lunch sponsored by the Social
Responsibility Committee, focusing our
attention on the "Ethical
Eating" study / action, and, at the
same time, collecting food for COTS, and
working on building our float for the
upcoming Butter and Egg Days Parade.
On April 26, about 40 of us marched in
Petaluma's Butter and Egg Days Parade,
featuring an elephant made of recycled
materials, UU-Umbo.
On Memorial Day Weekend, we held our
seventh annual all-congregation retreat,
the sixth year in a row at Four Springs
in Lake County.
In September, a bunch of us
participated in Petaluma's annual
Coastal Cleanup Day, focusing on a
portion of the Petaluma River up by
Corona Road. We found and hauled away
several hundred pounds of trash.
In October, we participated in the
350.org event which transformed
Petaluma's City Hall grounds into a
sustainable landscape.
On November 15, we held a rousing
worship service featuring local jazz
band, Blue 7, in a celebration of
"Jazz and the Spirit."
