I can't seem to drink enough of this dark brightness that falls from the stars .. It's easy to imagine that you're being subliminally taught the language of another world ...
I attempt to describe an Aurora I watched the other night and often get , with a slightly smug chuckle .. " I had a good sleep"
Well, an eternal sleep comes soon enough to all ... It's something I can't afford on nights such as this ...

Howl

Howl

I have two distant neighbors on both sides of my lonesome sanctuary here .. They each have a team of Huskies (one has 50 + sled dogs) .. It's been only a blink of Earth's eye since they ascended a diverging river of time and genes from their cousins, the Wolves and they have not forgotten the music of their ancestors ... Their deep throated harmonies are typically the only sounds to reach my hearing across the dark of night. Their songs intensify when the Aurora is active. I don't know if our friends in the tribes of dog look up and see the stars, but they seem to be feeling something ... I want to howl with them ...

Conjuring Spirits

Conjuring Spirits

Sometimes, when you've been spending enough time alone in silent contemplation of these star speckled drifting light clouds ... you want to lose all thought of solar storms, photons ...
You begin to suspect you may be summoning some ancient elemental deity ... ghostly dragons form and fade ..
It's a feeling more akin to alchemy than science ..

Red Spear

Red Spear

Quivering flames of night ... I confess I'm a student of dark skies .. I can't claim any other profession at this time ..

Sky Travellers

Sky Travellers

The small red track at lower center of this photo records the path of a distant jetliner .... I wonder if any of the airborne wanderers woke from their dreams to peer out of the craft's little windows and notice the slowly shifting jade mists illuminating the ether ....
