Volcano and Arch

This image of Volcan de Agua and the Santa Catalina convent arch is the defining image of Antigua, Guatemala for me. The photo was taken at about 6:30am on the morning after a horrible, grey, rainy day. By 7am, the clouds had obscured the volcano again.

This photo was taken during a trip to Guatemala on behalf of the PC(USA) Mission Presbytery Guatemala Partnership which works with a local organization to raise funds for social and educational projects in Guatemala. You can find out more about our work by clicking here.

Wow, you really caught an amazing color out of the volcano in this shot!! And you are absolutely right, that IS the classic view that distinguishes the guatemalan land! ;) (especially Antigua).

Beautiful, I live in El Salvador so for me is a 3 hour drive to antigua and have visit it a number of times...however I have never seen such a coparable view.

Never underestimate the power of a simple point-and-shoot. I love using my SLRs and all the fun equipment but my backup, carry everywhere, super-cheap Coolpix 4600 has saved my b*tt on several occasions (this one included).

Very rare shot. You have to be there very early in the morging to make it. The rest of the day the arch is in the shade. I love it!
Making beautifull pictures is a matter of a sense of beauty and composition rather than (the price of the) equipment, as this picture proves.

I tweaked the colours and levels on this one a bit to try to remove some of the haze on the volcano and brighten the colour of the archway. Aside from that, the street really was that empty.
