This poor guy is missing his right hand. There is beautiful sculpture all over this cemetery. I'm sure I'll be posting a lot of pictures from the Recoleta because the graves all have a story to tell.
I fellow BsAs expat blogged about this grave in a Line of Sight entry. This grave depicts the quinessential Argentine immagrant experience. Like the US, most Argentines can trace their roots back to immegrants from Europe and elsewhere.
This statue shows an Italian stepping off the boat dressed like a goucho, The boat is titled Ayudate, which in italian means "Help yourself". It is that kind of spirit that shaped not only the US, but his wonderful country to the south. It is amazing how similar our histories are, yet how different our cultures turned out.
