How to make a photo like this:

    1) Go to the menu on the back of your canon dslr.

    2) Highlight "Clean Sensor" and press the OK lens.

    3) Take a hand air puffer.

    4) Puff air into it in an attempt to clean the cmos.

    5) Take a nice picture of a white background to check out whether that nasty stain in the middle of you photos has gone.

    6) Take 4 more photos in disbelief.

    7) Feel stomach sink to your feet.

    8) Drive straight to your nearest camera shop.

    9) Pay £45 to get it sent off and cleaned.

    10) Repeat on a daily basis to your wife "£45 - shit, I've only had the fucking thing for a week"

    11) Watch all that nice summer sunlight slip away. See photos everywhere.

    Bastards.

Anyone know how to get their sensor clean without doing this?

    Cheers...

Perhaps your blower was full of dust? You used a squeeze bulb right and not a can of compressed air?

      Holy shit. That's bad.
I have a few spots on my 20D.
Last time I tried a blower it did nothing - now I just ignore them.

@mcjohnmcc - a squeeze bulb as told to in my manual. did it to my lens too, just to be sure.

You probably have a lot more than that. For a true test, shoot blue sky at f22, bring the image into photoshop and run autolevels.

      Then google copperhill.

@davidtrent I suspect that there was some dust in the bulb itself to add to your pain.

I've had a few running battles with dust on my 350D but my 20D has been ok so far.

Don't forget to hold the camera downward, like your taking a picture of the ground, so dust falls out of the mirror box, and not back in.

If it makes you feel better, I'd had my 350D for three weeks when I also tried to clean the sensor. Then my hand slipped and scratched the sensor.

That's just a silly amount of dust. I've used a 300d for almost two years, change lenses frequently and never seen anything like that.

I've only ever used a jumbo blower but if that's not working for you you might want to look at this ...

These things are expensive, but I've heard good things about them. For now, the blower's working for me, so I haven't had to fork over the dough for these brushes.

It costs ~$2 to clean your sensor, with the scotch tape method. Didn't get my sensor perfect, but certainly helped.
