On returning to this spot (not for the last time), I decided to step away from the crowd and shoot this particular composition of Valley View. I liked the way that El Capitan and the Three Brothers reflected in the water. I had to shoot this scene a little before sunset, to capture the most amount of reflected color. Shooting right at sunset would have resulted in the golden light being much less pronounced, especially on the right side.
It is capturing scenes like this one that I realize the importance of using a graduated filter. This has prompted me to come up with a variation of a well known saying…“Keep your camera close, and your ND grads closer”
