Some big stopper action on a rather dull, calm day

Just a quick trip out to South Queensferry on Sunday evening. I thought this scene would benefit from a little texture in the water (due to the lack of interest in the sky) rather than going for the usual long exposure approach.

From the second evening, the heavy rain cleared shortly before sunset resulting in an interesting texture on the beach in addition to the sand patterns created from the retreating tide.

With the exception of a day trip to Northumberland & the Borders in October, I've pretty much had a year out of photography. Last week I managed to get away for a couple of days over to the Isle of Eigg. It was great to be back out in the fresh air again, although it took me a while to get back into the routine of composing a scene and applying the various settings, I was very rusty!

There was low cloud shrouding Rum each evening. When I set this one up I took a low profile to exaggerate the perspective of the sand patterns, hoping for a burst of rays from the setting sun to mimic the patterns in the foreground, but it didn't materialise.

So, overall - a really enjoyable trip and it was great to be out with the camera again. Looking forward to returning one day, hopefully soon
