This picture was shot on a tripod with four exposures (-2..0..+2 EV @ ISO100 plus one @ ISO1600 for the stars). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tone mapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Used Nik Sharpener Pro to sharpen image.
The views along the hiking trail were fantastic as we went around Smith Rock and along Crooked River. It was fairly dark by the time we hiked back to the parking lot. Fortunately, I brought along my high intensity LED torch lights. The light along the river in the distant was from Joe lighting his way back to the parking lot. He basically abandoned the three of us. Anyway, we took our time to enjoy the night sky with silhouette of the rocks. I decided to shoot in the dark. And with the long exposures I got the scene lit up with reflection of the rocks and the night sky on the river.
