This picture was shot on a tripod with nine exposures (-4..-3..-2..-1..0..+1..+2..+3..+4 EV). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tonemapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. 1 layer mask to increase the contrast of Mount Hood. 1 layer mask to increase color saturation and contrast of the sky and the reflection. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Used Nik Sharpener Pro to sharpen image.
After dinner, we decided last minute to drive up to Trillium Lake to catch some sunset. It turned out to be a great move. Gary Randall was there all alone with his two dogs. He was so glad to see some living and breathing souls pulling up in a car. Of course, Joe recognized Gary and asked him the age old question. "Are you Gary Randall?" Everything went downhill from there as you can see from my shot! Haha! You can see Gary's version by clicking HERE. Presented in full HDR!

yes, there is lots of saturation, yes very strong hdr, but it looks AWESOME!!!

I'm curious what method you used in order to get a 9-stop HDR on your 7D. I'm new to actually DOING an HDR but I picked up somewhere a tip to set your Custom functions to each bracket 3 stops, so c1 would do -4 -3 & -2; c2 would do -1 -0 & +1; and c3 would be +2 +3 & +4. Is this the way you go about it or do you do something else? Thanks! Wonderful image, amazing composition and extremely vibrant colors.
