Dust Storm from Black Mountain![]() ![]() This is the second night in a row that we have had threatening skies from the east. It is weird to see storms blow in from the east instead of the west.
I think I read somewhere that it has to do with the Sea of Cortez mixing with the jet streams. Please feel free to correct me if you know better. The shot was taken from Black Mountain in North Scottsdale looking west. The yellowish haze is actually dust being blown up in the sky from the valley floor. If you look close you can also see a finger pointing to the right in the clouds. Jerry said that God was wanting us to look that way. Best seen large. Commentshappysweetmama

Gorgeous! Summer monsoon storms come up from the Southeast. Your theory sounds about right, although I have never heard anything definitive.
When I left work last night at 6:00 p.m., 24th & Camelback, all was clear. When I left the gym at 7 in the same area, my car had 'sprinkles' and the wind was blowing. When I turned into my neighborhood in Tempe, water was coursing through the streets. I had missed the deluge by mere minutes.
Such is the summer storm in the Sonoran Desert.
