The Saint John's Bible Project
![]() Today we visited the opening of "Illuminating the Word - The Saint John's Bible at the Phoenix Art Museum.
The Saint John's Bible is a contemporary piece of art created in the tradition of handwritten medieval manuscripts. Based on theological briefs that direct the interpretation of scripture in the illustrations, world-renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson and his team of scribes and artists have created illuminations that reflect a multicultural world and celebrate humanity's advancements in science and technology. The project is an interfaith undertaking and incorporates imagery from Eastern and Western religious traditions as well as Native American cultures. Above is an example of the first page of Luke. The artistry in this monumental work is breathtaking and certainly worthy of a trip down to the Phoenix Art Museum. Here is a link to learn more about the project as well as better representations of the beautiful artwork: www.saintjohnsbible.org/ Note: this is not my photograph. There was no photography allowed at this special exhibit. CommentsWould you like to comment?Sign up for a free account, or sign in (if you're already a member). |
