Earthquake!

Earthquake! by ambo333.
Wow, we had an earthquake last night! I was lying on the sofa at the time, so got the full 'up and down' effect - it quite spooked me at the time. First there were two main rumbles, which seemed to move the sofa up and down an inch or so, then I watched a few aftershocks ripple through the top of a cup of tea I was drinking. Largest one for 30 years apparently at 5.2 on the richter scale.

More here: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7266136.stm

I slept right through the last one I experienced in Tokyo, Japan. I didn't even stir!

Wow - that's amazing that you were able to capture it on film ;-) I love the colors in this photo and the graduated gradient is really cool...plus the camera "shake" really adds to the composition! Glad to see you didn't duck and cover!

Gorgeous shot, ambo - amazing - is this really it, or was it slightly helped along by photoshop?. An earthquake in Britain - unbelievable - but true! ...I got an email from someone this morning saying how they slept through the earthquake....I though she must have been drinking or something....blimey! Hope nobody was hurt anywhere...my trip to San Francisco was slightly marred by it being the anniversary of the biggy that destroyed the bridge.....everywhere I looked, newspapers, magazine and people talking about if it was gonna happen again... I was terrified... or shall we say very nervous!

The earthquake happened at 12.55am, with an aftershock around 4am. In England in February it would be pitch black outside. The sun does not rise until around 6.30am. I don't think this was taken during the quake somehow!!!! Sorry mate!!!!!

Yep. I was in bed. Quite springy. Sat up and it started moving me around. The mirror on the dressing table was shaking. So it wasn't just the bed. I thought the foundations of the house were moving, but then thought it must be an earthquake. Only lasted about 10/12 seconds, I think. I watced the news channel to see if there were any other reports. And about 20 mins later It got a mention. Seems that the epicentre was in Lincolnshire. No real damage done.
