London Routemaster Bus

As I have had such a great response to this photo I thought I would explain how and why I came to take it.
I intentionally went out to take a photo of a Routemaster bus before they all disappeared to be replaced by more modern, global style, and in my opinion characterless buses. The Routemasters have come to be an icon of London but now there are just a few left running on tourist routes.
I also intended to selective colour it as I have here but originally thought this location near BBC Radio would be the best place to take it.
However when I arrived in central London near Trafalgar Square the lighting was so spectacular that I stayed there too long and just managed to walk around the corner and take this shot outside Charing Cross station before leaving.
Just a bit of fortune to have something come together so well with the cyclist and Porsche all at the same time. If only it was always that easy.

Lovely shot, especially the biker. They always seem about to be murdered by the buses.

For some reason, this image looks almost three dimensional.

Wow! Love it! Adventurously Vivid. Besides the brightly-colored bus, the clouds also create high drama.

I really like the background you have written about this shot.

It really shows that you do give a toss about such things.

Your narrative on location and timing gives the impression that it's the moment; rather than simply photographic technique you want to portray when you take pictures.

      Thanks again all.

@jim moore - Yes, I think it is all about the moment. Also it's ok to plan these things (I don't usually - I am not that organised) but if it all goes to cock then sometimes it can actually work out better than you hoped for.

Fantastic shot. !! You have done a grand job of capturing the good old routemaster. The new buses have far less character than this famous old style from the 60's. The selective toning works so well.
      Excellent work.

I like this shot the red bus really stands out in the black and white photo, a dramatic scene of the bus outshining the Porsche.

Have I commented on this one yet? My goodness...and yes so sad about the Routemasters. I was glad my first trip to London, in 05, preceded their demise. (We have Routemasters in NY too, for tourists, but it's not the same.)

It's the same bus that you photographed further back along the Strand. It's going the wrong way for Aldwych - the driver has forgotten to change the destination board!
