Statue of King Sejong

    King Sejong (15 May 1397 - 8 April 1450) was the fourth monarch of the Joseon Dynasty. He created the Hangul, the Korean alphabet, and was responsible for the development of moveable printing type, and encouraged the publishing of many books. He was a prolific inventor, creating rain guages, sundials, water clocks, and astronimical observation devices. He is credited with improving Korean music and reforming the agricultural land tax system to stimulate farming. Sejong left a legacy of political, economic, cultural, educational and scientific achievments and is the very model of a good and wise king. He showed concern for the poor and sought to improve the lives of his subjects.
