Beautiful image! At the same time it drives home the destructive nature of the industry. Well done.

      Instant favourite!

A powerful image. Our great grandchildren will look at photographs like this and shake their heads.

Phenomenal. Those three stacks belching steam or smoke, glowing in the sun, really set the mood. The lighting is wonderful.

What a capture of industry that would never work for me in colour.

How can something so ugly be so beautiful?
Just curious ... is it still there, or is there a shopping center there now?

Is the steam spelling out "901" or is that my imagination?

    9. Dizzy Atmosphere 65 months ago | reply

Definitely still an active petroleum producing area, the location where 'There Will Be Blood' originated and still exists. No shopping centers any time soon at this location, much too toxic. I passed through this area July 2007: Kern County, California

I worked there three years ago and it still is going strong. It is the Cymric oil field. It is one of the top 5 oil producing fields in California. That field is not going anywhere for 50 + years so get used to it.
